Red Bull Sound Select 30 Days Festivals

I defined the overall vision, user experience & UI design of a multi-phase, CMS-driven responsive website for the Red Bull Sound Select 30 Days festivals. The website is used to announce the annual event, allows music fans to easily purchase tickets, then continues the momentum throughout the month-long festival with editorial content, event recaps & stunning photo galleries documenting the premium experience.

30 Shows in 30 Days

From 2014 - 2016, Red Bull Sound Select took over Los Angeles for the entire month of November, with 30 shows in 30 days in venues around the city. The ambitious event required a digital companion that not only provided music fans with info & tickets for the events, but also allowed them to keep up with all of the highlights, surprises and special guests during the takeover. The festival expanded to Chicago for 2017, allowing us to extend the modular features of the website to further support the event as it continues to grow.

The Art of 30 Shows

The Art of 30 Shows

To give each event an appropriate feel of its own, we work with local artists from the market to produce iconic poster artwork and motion graphics that showcase the events in an attention grabbing way. On the ticketing site, the cards for each night throughout the month needed to support multiple states, phases and scenarios - Is the user logged in? Is the show sold out? Has the show already happened? Is the event RSVP only?

For mobile users, we collapse the cards to allow quick scrolling through the 30 events so they can easily find the event they're looking for. The cards expand with a tap allowing users to proceed through the ticket purchase flow.

Premium UX from Announcement to Final Good Night

The website consists of five unique phases. We announce the festival, reveal the lineup and allow users to sign up for first dibs on tickets during the initial phase. The site then transitions into a ticketing site during the on-sale period. The shows sell out extremely fast, so to keep the energy and momentum going until Night 1, we release editorial content and tease giveaways & perks. Nightly recaps and stunning photo galleries are posted to the site the morning after each event throughout November.

Be There Without Being There

Beautiful, professionally shot photography enriches the site and provides a visual document of the month-long festival. The top moments from each night are posted to a photo gallery on the site the following morning, and are presented in a large full-browser carousel that emphasizes the premium-quality photography and helps viewers (re)live the experience.
